The E. J. Ourso College of Business Department of Public Administration is offering a seminar course beginning in January co-taught by U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy and Department Chair and Associate Professor Roy Heidelberg. The class is titled Special Topics: Ethics and Regulation of Artificial Intelligence.

The course will explore the ethical and moral concerns associated with the use and implementation of AI and algorithms. It will also include a practical learning opportunity for students to consider what it takes to regulate this unique technology. Course seminars will address the pressing issues of understanding AI through human conventions and the potential AI presents to change those conventions.

"Senator Bill Cassidy is a leader in the federal efforts to regulate artificial intelligence, and he will bring a unique and rare perspective to the classroom. By combining the philosophical and ethical concerns of AI with the urgent need to address its implementation, students will be given an exceptional opportunity to combine theory and practice," said Heidelberg.

The class will meet once a week in a seminar structure. It has no prerequisites and is available for both undergraduate and graduate credit. The 15-person course is open and available for student enrollment. For more information, contact Nicole Schmitz at nschmitz@lsu.edu.
