Gift from Roy O. Martin III and Kathy Martin Advances Strategic Initiatives in the E. J. Ourso College of Business

 

LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business alumni Roy O. Martin III and Kathy Kilpatrick Martin have expanded their support for the college with a new $650,000 commitment to graduate scholarships and faculty research.

The Kathy and Roy O. Martin III Graduate Scholarship will encourage graduates from LSU Alexandria, the Martins’ hometown, to pursue graduate degrees in the E. J. Ourso College of Business. The college may award up to four scholarships each year to LSU Alexandria alumni who are enrolled in full-time, on-campus graduate programs offered by the E. J. Ourso College. 

To help bolster research relative to LSU’s strategic priorities, the Martins have also established the Kathy and Roy O. Martin III Faculty Research Award. This fund will be available to Ourso College faculty and professionals-in-residence whose research explores topics such as renewable energy initiatives, improved health outcomes for the state, coastal restoration and sustainability, agricultural advancement and sustainability, data science or artificial intelligence. 

The Martins are both 1985 graduates of the Flores MBA Program. Roy is a longtime member of the Dean’s Advisory Council and was inducted into the Ourso College Hall of Distinction in 2009. 

Roy and Kathy are exceptional partners; we are deeply grateful for the opportunities they are creating for graduate students, faculty, and the state at large. I also have ties to Central Louisiana and am thrilled that it will be easier for LSUA alumni to enroll in the Flores MBA Program or pursue one of our other graduate degrees. The Martin family has long been known for its sustained investments in the state and LSU. This new research award will encourage our faculty to investigate those issues that are most critical to Louisiana's future.
