Assistant Professor – Petroleum Engineering

We are seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor dedicated to excellence in teaching, pioneering research, and mentoring future leaders in petroleum and energy engineering.

What you’ll do

· Teach and innovate: Deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in petroleum engineering while contributing to curriculum innovation.

· Lead research: Develop and sustain an independent, externally funded research program addressing industry and societal challenges.

· Collaborate and engage: Work closely with academic peers, industry partners, and multidisciplinary teams across campus.

· Mentor and serve: Advise students and participate in service to the department, college, and professional community.

What we’re looking for

· A Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related discipline (by the time of appointment).

· Strong potential for teaching excellence and development of a productive research portfolio.

· Ability to address real-world energy production and transition challenges, particularly in Gulf Coast, onshore/unconventional, or CCUS domains.

· Dedication to student success, inclusive learning environments, and professional service.

· Industry connections and a collaborative mindset are highly valued.

The Craft & Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering is recognized as one of the leading petroleum engineering departments in the United States, offering B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. Our research is supported by state, federal, and industry partners and benefits from exceptional facilities, including the Petroleum Engineering Research,

Training, and Testing (PERTT) Laboratory, the Chevron Reservoir Characterization Laboratory, and advanced experimental and computational resources.

University-wide infrastructure includes the Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices (CAMD) synchrotron and powerful computing capabilities through LSU High Performance Computing. The State of Louisiana and LSU are making major investments in carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) initiatives—creating an exceptional environment for innovative energy research.
