Mechanical Engineering Accreditation
The Mechanical Engineering (Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering) program
is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, under the commission's General Criteria and Program Criteria for Mechanical Engineering.
Program Educational Objectives
Consistent with LSU’s mission, mechanical engineering graduates will:
- Achieve successful careers in industrial, governmental, academic, and non-profit organizations.
- Continue to develop professionally and exercise leadership in their workplaces and
communities.
- Practice life-long learning and adapt to evolving technological and societal needs.
Program Student Outcomes
The mechanical engineering program produces graduates who are prepared to enter the
professional practice of mechanical engineering with:
- An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying
principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
- An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs
with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural,
social, environmental, and economic factors.
- An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
- An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations
