LSU Career Expo Connects Students with More Than 250 Employers

LSU hosted its Career Expo on Thursday, Sept. 17, bringing more than 2,400 students and alumni together with employers from across industries at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
The Fall Career Expo is LSU’s largest recruiting event of the year and is open to students and alumni of all majors. This year’s event drew 2,448 students and 900 employer representatives representing more than 250 companies.
The Career Expo provides students with an opportunity to explore career paths, practice networking, and connect directly with employers hiring for internships and full-time positions. For employers, the event offers an opportunity to recruit LSU talent..
“LSU students are extremely competitive and driven, bringing value to our program,” said Yolanda J. with Enterprise Mobility.
Employers from a wide range of industries returned to LSU to connect with students. For some, recruiting at LSU is about finding talent with strong ties to the region.
“We have a lot of roots in Louisiana and we like to hire people familiar with the culture,” said Justin M. with AWC.
For LSU alumnus Wade A. of Motiva Enterprises, recruiting at LSU also provides an opportunity to connect with students who share a regional and educational connection to the industry.
“I myself, being an LSU grad, know that the fundamentals I learned in engineering school here were applicable to the oil and gas industry in Texas,” Wade said. “There’s a lot of value for us to come across state lines and recruit the talent from LSU.”
The value of the Career Expo extends beyond the initial employer conversation. LSU alumnus Darius D., who now works for IMB, emphasized the impact of the opportunities available to students.
“All of these opportunities that are here for students make a difference for their futures,” Davidson said.
Students Put Networking Into Practice
For students, the Career Expo offered an opportunity to make connections, learn more about employers, and gain experience communicating with professionals.
Political Science junior Reginald B., spoke with eight employers, including representatives from the Louisiana Department of Justice. He said the conversations helped him better understand potential opportunities and what it would be like to work in a professional office.
“I would absolutely recommend anyone come check out the employers here,” Reginald said. “They are all helpful in pointing you in the right direction, even giving you resume tips and application advice.”
Mechanical Engineering sophomore Cameron S. said the event also gave him an opportunity to build on connections he had made at previous events.
“I’ve had a lot of great conversations with people,” Cameron said. “Even if you don’t get a direct interview out of it, the opportunity to just practice networking skills can take you a long way.”
For other students, the Expo helped broaden their understanding of the career possibilities available to them.
“My biggest takeaway is to have an open mind to different employers and career paths,” said Graciella M., a junior studying pre-public health. “I spoke to some employers that are outside of my industry.”
Microbiology sophomore Hala A. had a similar experience, discovering career possibilities she had not previously considered.
“You might find out that your major can go into a lot of different industries,” Hala said. “I didn’t realize that my biology degree could open up a career in engineering.”
Finance senior Macailen D. also walked away with a new connection and an interview opportunity. “The biggest thing I learned today was to keep an open mind when finding opportunities,” Macailen said. “Expo is a great way to network and put yourself out there.”
From Expo to Interviews
The Career Expo is also the starting point for continued recruiting conversations. The LSU Olinde Career Center hosted its Day After the Expo event on Friday, bringing 21 companies back to campus for on-campus interviews.
Throughout the day, employers conducted 174 interviews with LSU students, with some employers making offers by the end of the day.
The quick transition from Expo conversations to interviews demonstrates how the Career Expo can serve as a recruiting accelerator, connecting students and employers and helping move conversations forward quickly.
The Career Expo is more than a single-day event. It is an opportunity for students to explore possibilities and take the next step toward their career goals.
