Global Engagement Spotlight: Tanvir Sarkar
August 05, 2024
It's time for another highlight from our incredible global community! Today we're highlighting Tanvir Sarkar, a PhD student in LSU's Civil & Environmental Engineering department and president of the International Student Association.
Originally from Bangladesh, Tanvir chose LSU because of its reputation for excellent pavement materials research. Throughout his program, Tanvir has contributed to that reputation, having numerous articles published in top transportation journals. After graduation, he hopes to continue his research on new, durable pavement materials that improve road conditions and safety. "LSU's welcoming community and excellent academic resources made it the perfect fit for my goals," says Tanvir.
On campus, Tanvir has taken an active role in leadership and advocacy. He has participated in advocacy projects that support graduate students and their families, serves as a senator in the LSU Student Government, and leads the International Student Association (ISA) as its president. Tanvir says that he loves contributing to the sense of belonging on campus, and he's excited to see international and US students building friendships and connections. "This is why I joined the ISA," he says, "to create a home away from home [for international students]. I am incredibly proud of my team at the ISA. Their dedication, hard work, and shared commitment to our goals have been instrumental in our success."
Thank you, Tanvir, for your leadership and for fostering connections and friendships on campus!
